@LordDigz12

Hello, most backcountry rivers are in sandfly territory, so I cover up! No sandflies around the Upper Mataura though. Leah and I haven’t been running the lodge for several years now. It is now called Castle Hill Lodge, and is in superb condition. Mark and Sharon are the owners, and awesome people. The Naylor Cottage is also a good place to stay when fishing the fine rivers around Southland.

I have retired from guiding in NZ, and just write articles and lectures now.

@snowmofrk13

Catch and release is critical to the ongoing survival of a sensitive resource, such as backcountry New Zealand rivers as a whole. If you want to keep a fish for the barby, a nice 2 pound rainbow from one of the fine lakes of NZ are surperb.

Nice stuff Dax. That first place you shot when you were all covered from head to toe. Were you on the other side of the island dodging the sandflies? Hope you read this and the lodge is doing well.

Hey not bad at all . Good effort. Will post some footage too one day soon. I go solo at times as a kiwi fisher in the backcountry.
I know how hard it can be to film tuff fish.
cheers
