Fishing with Rod: Spring bull trout in Vancouver
Posted Under: Hunting and Fishing Articles and Video
For more fishing videos, please visit: www.fishingwithrod.com If you live in Vancouver BC, you don’t have to venture far to catch trophy size fish. In spring, large bull trout follow juvenile salmon down the Fraser River and they can be caught in the estuaries. In this video blog, we target bull trout by fishing with roe bags as the water is too muddy for fly or lure fishing due to freshet. It was a short evening outing but check out what ended up on the end of the line. Subscribe to go Fishing with Rod! @abcguk The rod is custom built from a 4wt Rainshadow fly fishing rod blank.
what rod are u using?
i caught a 32″ on a fly rod this year. monster fish. you did a great job handling that fish. way to go!
Do bull trout still come through the fraser river still
@FishHunterVideos They sure are. I used to live and fish in Melbourne, but most of my fishing was done in Port Philip for whiting, snapper and trevally.
@madmentals Pink salmon roe pieces.
Hey Rod nice video good music and editing greetings from Australia, just started my own channel here in Australia, first attempt fishing for Murray Cod on the northern tablelands of NSW Australia. Murray Cod are native to Australia and are a great fish.
@fishingwithrod true that especially with what looked like ultra light rod
@c17hydro1 Glad you’ve enjoyed the content so far.
Bull trout has become one of the more common target species here in British Columbia during the winter months. Lots of different opportunities for them up here.
@leongtoon62 Yes. Our email address can be found on either the bottom of our website or in the description section of our YouTube channel page.
@fishingwithrod can u be contacted via email?
Great video. I am in Tacoma and visit BC frequently…love the area. I have caught a lot of fish around the US and overseas but I have never caught a bull trout! I am active duty Air Force and will be looking up more info from your links….thanks a lot for the helpful info and keep up the great work! FISH ON!!
@fishingwithrod The clear Intermediate is my best friend. Amazing line for sure.
@Kremlin60 I just use freshwater line. There are two lines that I usually use – Scientific Angler GPX (floating) or Stillwater (clear intermediate sink). The GPX is used at bays or when the tide is not moving. The Stillwater is used in deeper and places where current is a bit strong.
@fishingwithrod I would gladly volunteer to be hooked in the name of entertainment
! Btw, do you need a saltwater line for fly fishing or will a freshwater one work better?
Congratulations !! Beautiful Trout there !! (∮’v`*∞p)q.+
@Michaech78 Thanks. Roe is only allowed in certain fisheries during certain time of the year in British Columbia. In this particular fishery (the Fraser River), roe is actually prohibited in part of September and October when a few endangered salmon are returning to it.
@1Moongate We’ll start recruiting volunteer joggers and see what we can do.
@riesie93 Thanks. A soft net is definitely a must. Unhooking mats etc are more for carp fishing. Here in British Columbia, you’re required to release your fish with care by keeping them in the water at all time except when you are taking a photograph.
Unfortunately it is not practiced enough by new anglers so this is always a good reminder.
Just saw your new release and as always, Thank-you for posting. Btw I am curious to seeing video episode of “backcast joggers—that did not get away”. Hagd
@lucasmacewan Thanks. That’s one of the things we really want to emphasize in all our videos. A soft mesh net to minimize slime loss, minimal time for fish being out of the water (people can always replay the vid to see the fish again) and a clean release soon after.
nice release thats how you handle a fish
That was great. It was just a normal day at the local fishing hole. We have a shore to fish off here .
@nerdherd10 Good to hear.
Two sunny days ahead of us, should be more good fishing.
@fishingwithrod i went to brownies today with my friend and we did pretty good, we got five nice rainbows =)
These are such interesting videos. And so beautifully shot.
好希望我也能去那邊釣魚 因為我只能在家的戶近的小河釣魚
I really want to go fishing there someday.
How come you guys aren’t using nets? Easier on you and the fish, no?
Isn’t anybody afraid that some mother grizzley is gonna show up with her cubs? I mean, do you guys carry side arms?
I love those fish… it’s so nice to see them swimming
What line weight are you guys using? And taper?
Are you using nymphs? I see you have strike indicators. Just wondering.
